MODERNIZATION OF TYUMEN BRANCH OF SVERDLOVSK RAILWAY IN 1956 - THE 1980S

Abstract.
The article deals with the problem of the modernization of Tyumen branch of Sverdlovsk railway in the 1950-1980s in the conditions of new industrial building construction in Western Siberia. On the basis of the analysis of archival materials the author shows the peculiarities and difficulties of the modernization process of the railway branch, proves its development lag from the pace of industrial building construction, and reveals reasons for the slow pace of the modernization of the branch. Tyumen branch of Sverdlovsk railway in the considered period had a double load: it bore transit traffic between the eastern and western regions of the USSR and, at the same time, it was a transport infrastructure to form the Western Siberian oil and gas complex. Tyumen branch made a decisive contribution to the industrialization of the industrial regions of Western Siberia, but many modernization problems of the branch remained unsolved.
