Abstract.
The article is devoted to the analysis of the role of religion in the historical development of the society. The authors ascertain the correlation of material and spiritual factors influencing the society development. Relying on M. Weber’s researches they come to the conclusion that along with such material conditions as economic-geographical position and technological level, spiritual life (and, first of all, religion) has a considerable impact on the historical process. And the influence of various types of religions on the society also differs.
