Abstract.
The article considers the ideological and artistic features of Fritz Lang’s film “The Wandering Image”. The authors analyze the nature of social and philosophical problems depicted in the film, which were the key ones in the creative work of L. N. Tolstoy, G. Hauptmann, and F. Nietzsche; and describe artistic techniques that were used by the director to express Christian ideals inherent in folk culture. Particular attention is paid to Fritz Lang’s refusal of film expressionism and symbolism traditions in favor of everyday sketches, location shooting, and realistic representation of different social strata’s life.
