The article analyzes the basic aspects of studying jazz harmony in the jazz theory course offered at musical higher school. Jazz harmonious language is considered at the crucial stage of its history - during transition from the classical period (swing style) to the modern one (bebop style). For comprehensive study of jazz harmony the paper suggests evolutionary approach, which promotes the formation of extended and adequate conceptions of the complicated, evolving structure of sound-pitch jazz organization.
