Abstract. The article examines development and specific features of Yakut wooden architecture, which is an element of material culture of the Sakha ethnos resettled in Eastern Siberia in the XIII century. Development of this architecture was influenced by many factors including relations with the aboriginal culture, and from the end of the XVI century - with Russian culture, which influenced creation of a new type of the Yakut wooden house - izba (the five-wall and six-wall house). It is fair to say that the Yakuts constructed wooden buildings, but in limited quantities, even before the Russians’ arrival, when the tribal feuds motivated them to construct defensive wooden towers.
