PRACTICES OF MEMORIALIZATION IN GERMANY DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR

Abstract.
The article discloses an algorithm of military burials arrangement and making monuments to German soldiers fallen on the front line during the First World War. The paper shows attitude of the German society to the killed in the war, which transformed from worship of death of a fallen soldier on the battlefield to the cult of the dead, when death of a soldier was equal to sacrifice of Christ and was perceived as a sacred act. The article sets out features and complexity of organization and arrangement of graves. Information about burial forms, schemes of military cemeteries creation in the years of the armed conflict is given.
