Abstract. The article analyzes peculiarities of author’s implementation of traditional Orthodox texts in domestic choral music of the end of the XX century. The researcher examines tendencies and specific ways of the author’s element manifestation when working with canonic structures. By the example of “The Prayers” by D. Smirnov the paper analyzes transformation of artistic language while working with the canonic text. The study concludes that the text’s emotional plane prevails over canonicity of its original structure and the composer appeals to similar acoustic experience of the addresser and the addressee.
