Abstract. In the article the authors on the basis of domestic researches consider the phenomenon of expansion and single out its various types according to the goals that the society-expansionist sets itself. Political, economic, cultural and ideological expansions are identified. Consequences of the completed expansion directly depend on the nature it had. Therefore, at present, the regions formerly developed by Europeans-Catholics, Europeans-Protestants and Orthodox Russians differ significantly from each other.
