Abstract. The article deals with the problem of deconstruction of the binary gender schema in the theory of Sandra Ruth Lipsitz Bem. The basic cognitive attitudes of the traditional “knowledge about the field” (“lenses of gender”) are considered as a source of construction of social inequality. It is concluded that androcentrism, gender polarization, and biological essentialism form a limited choice of behaviour strategies in the modern society, hindering development of individual abilities of a person.
