Abstract.
In the article conceptual foundations of the policy of the NATO eastward advance, which resulted in stage-by-stage expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance due to the states of Eastern Europe, are analyzed. The author pays special attention to strategic concepts of the Alliance and documents that compose them, which have been transformed in accordance with the current international situation and have become a basis of the modern foreign-policy strategy of the NATO.
