Abstract.
The subject of the study is the artist’s choice of a visual technique and creation of an image portrayed in the style of portrait graphics. The authors determine specificity and uniqueness of the figurative language of portrait art, examine the main styles of creating images, features of portrait types at different historical stages. The analysis of some portraits characterizing the creative approach of artists in making images determined by the technique of painting, skills and accumulated life experience is carried out.
