Abstract. The article deals with the problem of historical development of the phenomenon of “information warfare”. Its main characteristic was the use of propaganda through the mass media as a tool of influence on public opinion. The studied problems are covered through the lenses of the events of the Second Boer War, when the main British print media launched a large-scale propaganda campaign in struggle to form a definite attitude towards the causes, main events and results of this conflict.
