Abstract.
The article covers the interwar period (the 1920-30s) of the history of the recreational public health service of Karachay-Cherkessia. In the work the materials that outline the process of the emergence of the system of health resorts (sanatoriums, rest homes, and boarding houses) are presented. The author notes the departmental nature of these structures, the problems of solving their material, financial and food security, and the various aspects of the administrative and legal status of the resort. In addition, the stages of the history of sanatoriums construction are identified.
