Abstract.
The article examines style peculiarities of chants, their musical and poetical structure. The author emphasizes the role of Russian wedding ritual and its influence on form generation and musical style of special occasion songs. The typical peculiarities of chant performance are identified. The study is based on the materials gathered during the author’s folkloric expeditions to Saratov Volga region.
