Abstract. This article deals with the activity of M. P. Fomenkov, a choral conductor, a teacher and a public figure and his contribution to the development of choral music and performance in the Republic of Bashkortostan. M. P. Fomenkov’s adaptations of folk songs are notable for melodiousness and solicitous attitude to the original folklore sources, bright musical images, and naturalness of voice-leading. In the work the examples that illustrate the composer’s individual patterns and mastery are presented. The choral adaptations of folk songs are still wide-spread in the choral practice nowadays.
