Abstract.
The article analyzes the notion “function” in relation to mechanical, chemical and biological processes. The author shows that function becomes more complicated when mechanical approach gives way to chemical and biological. The paper concludes that there is an integrated conception of functioning in all the areas from mechanics to biology. These forms are different types of mutual dependence. Evolution of these forms is a qualitative change of this mutual dependence in the paradigm “spontaneity - structuredness - purposefulness”.
