Abstract.
The article analyzes material and spiritual aspects of social changes causing the modern human being to try desperately to find his identity. The author argues that the very process of interaction of historical knowledge with the social structures, institutions and practices when developing identity in late modernist societies becomes a social and intellectual technology.
