THE PECULIARITIES OF MELODIC COMPOSITIONS IN SARATOV VOLGA REGION CHANTS

Abstract. The article is devoted to identifying the peculiarities of melodic compositions in chants. The author points out that chant style formation occurs in two basic ways: by structural extension of verse and by inclusion of melismatic complications. These elements are the basis of tonal and melodic development in chants; they create certain semantics and composition integrity of the artistic form. The study is based on the materials gathered during author’s expeditions to the Saratov Volga Region.
