Abstract.
The dichotomy of the sentences of scientific theory to analytical and synthetic and the cumulative model of the development of scientific knowledge were the elements of the program of logical positivism. Both the assertion about the complete incompatibility of successive theories, and the assertion that it is impossible to distinguish between analytical and synthetic sentences, put forward in the course of criticizing this program, are, in the author’s opinion, the result of insufficiently accurate consideration of the intensional and extensional characteristics of the expressions of the theory.
