Abstract. The question of the place and role of religion in the modern Russian society is one of the most urgent. As a rule, scientists analyze the features of the influence of religious faith on social processes. One of the forms of natural religiosity of the Altai ethnos, which has a centuries-old history, is shamanism. In the scientific literature shamanism is defined as one of the forms of pagan religion, which was once practiced by savage peoples. Meanwhile shamanism is a significant part of the modern traditional culture of the peoples of Siberia, and the personality of the shaman himself acts as a “link” between people and the world of spirits of folk mythology.
