“THE IRISH CHURCH TEMPORALITIES ACT” (1833) AND THE CHURCH POLICY OF THE BRITISH CONSERVATIVES IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 30S OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article examines the religious situation in Ireland in the first third of the XIX century and the position of the United Church of England and Ireland in that period. The role and significance of the Irish crisis of 1832-1833 and the position of the Tory Party towards it are studied. The author considers the role of the leading figures in the Tory Party and their supporters in resolving the Irish crisis of 1832-1833. The text of the Irish Church Temporalities Act (1833) and the parliamentary debate in the course of its adoption are analyzed. The work shows the significance of the parliamentary session of 1833 in the formation of the principles of “rational conservatism” of R. Peel.
