Abstract.
This article examines Augustine of Hippo’s theological position that received its final form in the polemics with the British monk Pelagius. The author shows the degree of influence of Augustine’s doctrinal conceptions on the German reformer Martin Luther’s theology. The purpose of the work is to identify the reasons that stipulated Luther’s borrowing of Augustine’s doctrines about the original sin and divine decree. The author focuses on a critical analysis of Augustine’s and Luther’s teachings about the subordination of the human will.
