Abstract.
The article is devoted to the present state and prospects of the development of the traditional culture of the indigenous small peoples of the North by the example of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The legislative bases for the preservation of the cultural heritage and the tasks of its development are considered. The system of state support for the culture of the peoples of the North is presented. The authors single out three of its forms, give brief characteristics of authentic culture, folklorism, professional art, and describe the specific tasks that confront them. The importance of preserving the languages and traditional culture of the indigenous peoples of the North for all mankind is emphasized.
