Abstract.
In the article on the basis of declassified resolutions of the State Defence Committee of the USSR a brief history of the formation of Guards mortar units during the Great Patriotic War from June 22, 1941 to April 29, 1943 is considered. In the paper the author also briefly analyzes the role of Guards mortar units on Voronezh Front during the defensive stage of the Battle of Kursk.
