Abstract.
The article deals with the initial monostyle stage of the transition from classicism to historicism and eclecticism in the Russian architecture of the first third of the XIX century. It is noted that the leading idea of order and geometrism in the architecture of classicism began to conflict with new more complex functional requirements. It is emphasized that the philosophical and aesthetic views of the era of Romanticism were reflected in the process of the emerging crisis of normative classicism in the form of historical concretization and new reading of the antique classical ideal.
