Abstract.
The article is a review of A. I. Demchenko’s book “Illusions and Allusions. Mythopoetics of Music about the Revolution: Study”, published in June of 2017. The author analyzes briefly the key positions of the research devoted to the evolution of the historical and revolutionary theme in the Russian musical art of the end of the XIX - the end of the XX century. The general characteristics of the stages of this evolution considered in the publication (1920s, 1930-1950s, 1960-1980s) and features of their implementation in music are given. The importance of the problem solved by the writer is underlined, that is the definition of mechanisms leading to transformations of artistic interpretations of the theme at different stages of its development, as well as conditioning the laws of this development. The paper notes the factors determining the high topicality of the presented publication, its scientific and practical significance.
