Abstract.
The article analyzes the interrelation between tapestry and pictorial embroidery; the authors make a retrospective journey into the history of this Russian art trend, identify its technological peculiarities, and give the examples of outstanding art monuments. The works of St. Petersburg artists, who turned to national traditions, are considered; an illustrative series on this topic is presented. The authors note that the result of the synthesis of church and secular arts is works with a pronounced humanistic component built on the interaction of national traditions and modern visual culture.
