Abstract.
The article is devoted to the “Piece for Piano (left hand) and Orchestra” Op. 29 (1923) by Paul Hindemith. The author examines in detail the circumstances that preceded the appearance of the composition, provides the information on its owner - pianist Paul Wittgenstein. For the first time, using foreign sources, the paper describes the history of discovering the opus autograph score. Special attention is paid to the personality of Basel collector Arthur Wilhelm, in whose manuscript collection the lost autograph score was discovered. As a special documentary source the uncovered rarity supplies the German composer’s archive and promotes the deeper study of his creative heritage.
