Abstract.
The article analyzes the notion of freedom in European philosophy and science. The authors focus on the features of the definition of freedom in different philosophical traditions. It is pointed out that along with the humanities studies presented mainly in philosophical literature there is also an attempt of the natural-science analysis of the human freedom problem. The paper is an analysis of the theme of human free will through the lenses of modern discoveries in the field of neurophysiology and cognitive science. The authors formulate their own hypothesis about the possibility of the scientific definition of freedom.
