DOMESTIC POP MUSICAL IN THE CONTEXT OF MASS GENRES EXISTENCE: ON THE PROBLEM STATEMENT

Abstract. For the first time, the study of the pop musical as a separate genre, which has become a kind of the result of the domestic musical development, is the centre of research attention. The author’s definition of this genre is given. The musical basis of the pop musical is popular music in all its current stylistic diversity. At the same time, it has all the genre features of the musical itself: dynamic musical drama, address to famous literary subjects, emphasis on staginess, and desire for entertainment. The article shows the socio-cultural features of the musical existence in the West and in Russia. The author gives quite a detailed description of the range of the issues that arise when studying the popular genre in demand, which is also a starting point for the scientific research of the problem.
