Abstract.
The article deals with the variety of the manifestations and modifications of the comic in the first concerto for orchestra by R. Shchedrin “Mischievous Folk Ditties”, which is based on the synthesis of the traditions of folklore, jazz and academic orchestral music. The objective of the research, which has not been previously touched upon in domestic and foreign musicology, is to identify the mechanisms of the comic in this work of art. Particular attention is paid to the ideas of concert character and the ludic element that are directly related to the comic subtext of a folk ditty - the main intonation material of the concerto. The result of the study is the conclusion about the cause of metamorphoses - the paradoxical clash of folklore thematicism with alien stylistic context.
