Abstract.
The article considers the relevant and poorly investigated problem - teachers’ living conditions in the multi-national region during the important period for the Soviet school-building. Applying to previously unpublished documentary sources the authors show the process of qualitative changes in Dagestan teachers’ material situation and social status: wage increase, pension provision, supply of food, manufactured goods, fuel, providing decent accommodation, recreation opportunities, etc. The paper describes the difficulties that regional authorities came across when implementing the decisions of the country’s leadership.
