Abstract.
The article examines the artistic images of “characters-demons” from M. P. Mussorgsky’s opera “Boris Godunov” in the context of folk laughing culture. The paper provides their musical characteristic emphasizing the frequent use of dance themes and scherzo intonations. The author identifies semantic and dramaturgic functions of these personages and their relations with the personage-bearer of supreme power - Boris Godunov. Finally, the author concludes how the traditions of folk laughing culture are represented in the Russian opera, which refers to the folk drama genre. The researcher discovers the basic motive and nature of the relations between the artistic images of “characters-demons” and tsar Godunov.
