MUSIC OF PUBLIC SPACES: SOUNDING ART-OBJECTS IN URBAN DESIGN

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of the functioning and perception of sounding art objects in the system of urban design. Basing on the materials of the field studies conducted in 2017-2018 in Jerusalem, the author considers four sound installations located in the public spaces of the city. The main attention is focused on the audio aspect as the meaningful dominant and the factor of interactivity. Investigating the influence of the audio component on the communicative nature of artistic objects, the paper concludes that the described sound installations change the nature of communication with and within the space, creating areas for active interaction and creativity of the city dwellers.
