SOCIAL MEANING OF MORAL DIMENSION OF SCIENCE: FROM ETHICAL INDIFFERENCE TO ETHOS OF HERMENEUTICS

Abstract.
The article identifies epistemological causes of ethical indifference / ethical load of science conditioned by historical peculiarities of understanding the truth, subject and object of scientific activity. Developed within the purpose-oriented logic, a classical model of an extra-social subject of cognition abandoned the ethical component as a regulator of interpersonal relations. Taking into account modern understanding of truth as communicativeness and inter-subjectivity, the author introduces the concept “ethos of hermeneutics”, which, along with “culture of rationality”, should become one of the basic principles of ethos of science. The paper argues for the necessity to constitute ethical epistemology as a branch of social epistemology.
