M. Omurkanova’s Vocal Art in the Context of Current Efforts to Preserve Traditional Music

Abstract.
The paper aims to reveal the pedagogical potential of M. Omurkanova’s vocal heritage and to justify the relevance of its usage as educational and methodical material. The article presents the results of the experimental project “ Кыргыз кайрык ”, which includes workshops on the development of traditional music on the basis of M. Omurkanova’s vocal heritage, interactive meetings with traditional culture bearers and group music-making. The scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the samples of traditional vocal music for the first time were used as a manual for musicians of different specialities. The research findings are as follows: the researcher shows that the project, which lasted three years and involved more than 50 musicians, justified its efficiency in solving the problem of introducing traditional music into educational process of the Kyrgyz musicians.
