Abstract.
The paper aims to reveal approaches of the Chinese composers Huang Tzu and He Luting to the problem of synthesis of the western and Chinese musical traditions. The researcher analyses foundation of the artists’ creative searches. Scientific originality of the study involves identifying historiographical and structural models of their creativity. The conducted research allows drawing the following conclusions: 1) the new Chinese music contains an artistic image, i.e. philosophical and aesthetical components of the Chinese culture, both ancient (imperial) and national (basically peasant); 2) the West-European tradition encompasses a wide range of expressive means, which makes it possible to create typically Chinese compositions; it conditions the necessity to study them as the means expressing artistic images of the Chinese culture.
