Abstract.
The research objective is as follows: to reveal specificity of legal and ethical regulation of medical secrecy in the West European countries at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries by the material of the Russian physicians’ and lawyers’ works. Scientific originality of the study involves an integrative analysis of the West European legislation regarding medical secrecy at the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century. A retrospective analysis of medical confidentiality requirements in the European legislation is presented. As a result, it is shown that foreign experience of legal regulation of medical secrecy influenced considerably the overall tone of discussions on medical secrecy in domestic medicine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.
