Abstract.
The paper aims to investigate social attitudes towards the Tatars in the major Russian-speaking network communities. The author analyses the Tatars’ image by the material of network discourse of three major Russian-speaking communities in the social network “VKontakte”. It is shown that external triggers and conceptual component of “We” image influence cardinally the process of the Tatars’ image formation. The Tatars’ image represented in network community discourse is largely characterized by the dichotomy “the native - the outsider”. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the Russian-language social network discourse is for the first time considered as a predictor of interethnic relations between the Russians and the Tatars. As a result, the author identifies the strategies of interethnic behaviour most frequently used by the community administrators and members.
