Social Aspect of “Reverence for Life” Ethics by Albert Schweitzer

Abstract.
The aim of this work is to examine the moral imperative of “reverence for life” by Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) in the context of the issue of its social or asocial character. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that the analysis carried out in it considers the ethics of “reverence for life” not in the context of a person’s attitude to other creatures or in general to the natural environment, but in the context of intrasocial relations. The results obtained show that the ethical imperative of reverence for life is both person-centred and socially-centred at the same time, which allows us to speak of the social (as opposed to asocial) character of Schweitzer’s ethics.
