Abstract.
The article is devoted to the analysis of polyphonic style in chorus creative works ‘a cappella’ by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. The aim of this research is to describe the features of counterpoint style of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov by the example of the chorus ‘Lord of my days’ (‘Prayer’) from the series ‘Six choruses’. It is pointed out that the music language of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov is remarkable with its moderation, profundity, semantic concentration, strict obedience to the Spirit of the Word. Polyphony takes an important place in the compositions for chorus ‘a cappella’. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s chorus ‘Prayer’ has been considered firstly in the aspect of polyphonic style analysis. As a result, it is substantiated that the chorus composition under consideration becomes the most important in the context of the composer’s spiritual heritage.
