Abstract. The reviewed monograph by A. I. Demchenko is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the composer Alfred Schnittke. The author summarizes many years of scientific research on the work and style of this leader of world musical art. The study focuses on the historical, social, philosophical, and personal factors that shaped the composer’s path in music. As a result, the book reveals a number of important aspects related to the conceptuality of the comprehensive semantic context of Schnittke’s works. The content of the monograph has high theoretical and practical significance. The book will be of interest and value to both professional musicians and anyone interested in the history and musical culture of our country.
