Peter and Paul Church of the village of Yagul of the Udmurt Republic. History and modernity

Abstract. The purpose of this article is to identify the uniqueness of the three–dimensional solution of the Peter and Paul Church of the village of Yagul in the Udmurt Republic and highlight the process of its restoration in the 2020s. The article examines the history of the construction of the temple at the beginning of the 20th century, traces the existence of the structure in the Soviet period of history. Its stylistic, space-planning and decorative solutions are analyzed. Attention is drawn to an expressive technique, quite rare for architectural practice at the beginning of the 20th century, used in the composition of the bell tower of the Peter and Paul Temple – four small bulbous domes on thin "necks" and on pedestals above the corners of its first tier. For the first time, the article examines the process of recreating the original appearance of the church in the 2020s. As a result of the research, it can be said that the Peter and Paul Church is an interesting example of the "Russian-style" temple building in the 60s of the 19th – early 20th century in the province, which has experienced a tragic history and is currently being restored in its original form.
