Abstract. The study aims to address current issues concerning the stylistically accurate interpretation of Baroque vocal music, specifically those related to the expressive intonation of musical and verbal texts. The article raises questions about working with the word as an important component in conveying the affect of the composition. In line with the requirements of the old masters, not only clear but also intonationally expressive delivery of the vocal text becomes crucial. For the first time in Russian musicology, the problems of text pronunciation in early music are examined in the context of the relationship between artistic and vocal-technical components. Using specific examples, the article discusses various approaches to intoning the melody and the word in the context of conveying a specific affect. Special attention is paid to the analysis of key aspects of vocal technique that ensure a wide range of expressiveness during the articulation of phonemes. As a result, the author concludes that understanding the deep interconnection between text and music in early arias, as well as adhering to the fundamental principles of vocal-technical work on pronunciation, will contribute to the accurate reproduction of the composition’s meaning and bring the singer closer to creating a stylistically accurate interpretation.
