Abstract. The study aims to systematize the body of information on the history of the establishment and development of regular radio broadcasting in the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR in the 1930s and its role in the republic’s national-cultural development. The article discusses the radiofication of villages and ulus settlements, during which the process of radio construction and broadcasting acquired a focused nature, and the material, technical, and staffing foundations for regular radio broadcasting were laid. Serious efforts were undertaken to ensure that wired broadcasting centers were built in all districts of Buryatia, serving as channels for prompt communication with the center, mass information, and propaganda. It is noted that after the dissolution of the local radio newspaper “Za bolshevistskiye tempy”, all matters concerning radio construction and broadcasting were transferred to the Committee for Radiofication and Broadcasting under the Council of People’s Commissars of the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR. The leading directions in the work of the radio committee were socio-political and artistic broadcasting in Russian and Buryat languages. The scientific novelty of the research lies in introducing into scholarly circulation information about the first centers of regular radio broadcasting, which includes data on the radiofication of the capital, villages, and ulus of the republic, and the comprehensive assistance provided by the Irkutsk Radio Center to the radio specialists of the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR. As a result of this work, it was revealed that during the period under review, paramount importance was attached to organizing regular broadcasting in the national Buryat language. Personnel for the radio were recruited from the editorial offices of republican newspapers, from among local artists, and sent to courses at the Irkutsk Radio Center.
