Academic integrity as a socio-cultural phenomenon in the context of higher education digitalization

Abstract. The study aims to identify the specific features of how the digitalization of higher education influences adherence to the principles of academic integrity. The article unpacks the essence and content of “academic integrity” as a socio-cultural phenomenon; it defines the potential of digital technologies to uphold academic integrity principles in the higher education process; it identifies factors contributing to dishonest behavior in digital higher education and reveals the potential consequences of violating academic integrity principles. The scientific novelty of the work lies in its socio-ethical interpretation of the academic integrity problem within the digital educational environment of higher education and in its proposal of practical recommendations for preserving and strengthening these principles. The research concluded that the digitalization of higher education presents a dilemma: on the one hand, it contributes to increased efficiency in the educational process, partly through innovative methods for ensuring academic integrity. On the other hand, it gives rise to factors that provoke dishonest behavior and undermine the principles of academic integrity, leading to a range of negative consequences for the higher education system and society as a whole. The resolution of this contradiction lies in achieving a balance between traditions and innovations, which can be implemented through the practical recommendations proposed by the author.
