Constructing the Soviet past: on the problem of interpreting literary narratives

Abstract.
The aim of this study is to identify and justify the relevance and format of constructing the image of the past using methods of appeal to the source resource of literary narratives of the 1920-1930s marked by a transition to a strategy of fighting against God. The choice of the period is determined not only by the turning point, the metamorphoses of sociopolitical strategy, including the fight against God, and the corresponding political technologies, but also by the radical nature of the intentions to “reforge” mass psychology in line with the “cultural revolution” in the USSR. The scientific novelty of the article lies in a new methodological reading of Soviet literary texts in the discourse of constructing the image of the Soviet past. The authors focus on identifying multi-level mechanisms of interaction between Party-state ideologemes and individual consciousness, tracing hidden trajectories of adaptation, resistance, and transformation at the level of everyday consciousness, and traditional mental and value orientations as revealed through literary narratives. The research results demonstrate the productivity of applying an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing literary narratives as sources for understanding the history and specific mechanisms of Soviet identity formation. The narrative strategies identified in the course of the study reveal the complex and multifaceted nature of the processes involved in constructing the Soviet past.
