Abstract.
The research aims to reconstruct a comprehensive picture of the emergence and the initial stage of activity of the Arzamas Alexander Nevsky Society of Banner-Bearers. The article reveals the historical context of the organization’s creation, analyzes its structure and the rights and obligations of its members, and reconstructs the chronology of key events, including participation in the Sarov celebrations and religious processions. Special attention is paid to characterizing the group of founders and the dynamics of membership growth. The scientific novelty lies in the detailed reconstruction of the activities of a provincial church-public association during its inception (1903-1904). The article demonstrates its connection with public life and the pressing issues of both the country and the city of Arzamas, while also identifying the contributions of specific prominent figures to its work. The conducted analysis led to the following conclusions: the society, established on the initiative of the laity, became an effective form of interaction between the church and the people, contributing not only to the aesthetic enhancement of divine services but also to the strengthening of patriotic spirit and social identity during a transitional era.
