Conceptual ideas of the transcendent in ancient metaphysics

Abstract.
The aim of this study is to articulate the conceptual ideas regarding the transcendent within ancient metaphysics. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the substantiation of two ontological and epistemological concepts within Greek and Jewish philosophy that addressed the problem of the transcendent: the metaphysics of the Cosmos of Plato and Aristotle, which combines cosmological and anthropological approaches, and the metaphysics of God of Philo of Alexandria, which combines theological and anthropological approaches. As a result, it was established that two fundamental ideas of conception developed in ancient metaphysics. First, transcendent as a “supra-celestial region” of the Cosmos “beyond” human reach, containing “the world of ideas”, in the philosophical conception of Plato; and as the “beyond” unmoved mover of the Cosmos – God, residing in “the supralunar world”, in the philosophical conception of Aristotle. Second, transcendent as an absolutely inaccessible and unknowable God and “divine world”, in the religious and philosophical conception of Philo of Alexandria.
