Abstract. The purpose of the study is to develop a theoretical model of the festive atmosphere as an integral quality of collective experience emerging in the urban environment. The article examines classical concepts of ritual (Émile Durkheim, Victor Turner), phenomenological theories of space (Henri Lefebvre), and contemporary approaches to affect (Sara Ahmed, Brian Massumi, Lauren Berlant); based on these, the concept of a “festive atmosphere” is proposed, and the affective profiles of state holidays in contemporary Russia are analyzed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the conceptualization of the festive atmosphere as an integral effect of the interaction among the structural elements of a holiday. It is shown that atmosphere is not reducible to the sum of individual emotions, but represents a form of collective experience arising from the coordinated interplay of the festive narrative, ritual practices, and the urban environment. As a result, various types of affective organization of state holidays in contemporary Russia are identified, and the viability of using the concept of a festive atmosphere as a diagnostic criterion for the effectiveness of festive communication is substantiated.
